Horn location MK6.. I know where I'm supposed to look but...

Postby robinm_uk » Tue Sep 20, 2011 12:56 pm

Hi all,

I've got an '05 2.0 FWD and can I find the horn..?? The horn wasn't working when I bought the van last weekend, the van is
loaded with electric everything, windows, mirrors, even a heated screen! and everything else works fine.

I've checked fuse No. 7, it's fine, the relay clicks when you press the steering wheel centre so I'm guessing the switch is OK.
So I'm now checking the horn itself and it's earth..
I've read the other posts about this, they say it's in-between the nearside (UK) headlight and radiator (some say under the headlight?)
There's nothing under and to the nearside of the headlight except the washer bottle. I can see nothing beside the radiator.

I've looked hard with a big torch but can see nothing that looks like a Horn! Do I have to take the bumper corner or grille off to get to it?

I feel a bit daft, (especially as I'm an electrican) Hehm..

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Rob.

I've checked all the wires, they are all attached to things, there seems to be several larger plugs in the area and a smaller cable with a protector sleeve on,
this seems to be for the radiator temp sensor.

Are the horns two wires or a single?

Am I looking in the right place?

Thanks,

When it's not so wet I'll have another look from underneath again, It's definitely not obvious like the second pic, I would have spotted
a large horn shaped object hanging from the chassis leg right next to the washer bottle!

The van has two things which may or may not be connected:
1. It has a reversing beeper thing which can be turned off with a switch on the dash, it's not a horn sound, it's a beeper and is def at the back of the van.
2. The van has a standard Ford alarm (LX model?) this sounds if you double lock and then open the bonnet, it sounds like a car horn but comes from near the drivers door pillar inside the van somewhere.

I'll have another look and your help is very appreciated guys, thanks. I'll let you know when I find it!

The top pic is a standard horn I've seen on ebay for £15, the 'snail' type in the second pic isn't so common for sale on ebay, although both have the DIN connector..

Thanks,

Rob.

I couldn't find it because some toe-rag has pinched it..!!

Unbelieveable, someone would actually steal a horn. There's a captive nut looking recently distressed in the chassis leg and
they've CUT the wires too..

Mmm.. it's mendable, please can someone confirm the colours of the wires, I've got a red and yellow and a black.

Thanks,

Rob.

Thanks very much guys, replacement hatchback scaring horns on the way, wiring to be extended with soldering and new crimps..

Using the missus I tested the cable and it's 12.6V when horn is pressed! (actually I used a multimeter not the missus, you know what I mean)
