Take a look at this van
Image

It was developed and made by FORD
It has the SAME REAR LOWERING METHOD AS I USE .Even down to the standard leaf springs.Except it uses coilovers

P.p.s by the way, this van NOT developed by Ford, it was built as a project by Ford engineers as a bit of fun, not for production or everyday use, just a novelty.

A "novelty "that has been tested on the road and track.Try googling TRANSIT CONNECT EX-PRESS 5th GEAR.That,s right it was tested on telly ,racing round a track by tiff needell.
Has covered 40,000 miles since it was made.Same rear set up as mine.

You really need to pay attention as to what HAS happended in developing this mod and not what MIGHT happen.

You honestly believe that your engineering is on par with real engineers?!?! I've seen the pics by the way lol

As for not paying attention to what might happen? Yeah that's wise words coming from someone punting a band aid mod like this. If you are going to lower your connect, do it properly, just because it has been done on other vehicles doesnt make it right for connects.
Transit Connect, that's all the info im advertising for theives!

This topic seems to have gone into a complete new direction!
Can I ask...what is the actual problem?
Is it the way this mod is being done?
Is it the question that the original U bolts won't be able to cope?
Or is it a battle of wisdom?

Brit: what is the correct way of lowering the rear then?
I like to think This forum was a boring place until I turned up!

YOU LOOKING AT ME, LEE!! ?

ha ha, its just degenerated into name calling, wish i hadn't mentioned the U bolts! It'd be more appropriate in a school playground.

I have kept quiet on it since it turned sour, but i have been looking at the axle flip pictures on the net and there are some (on a VW Caddy) that use a slightly oversized bottom plate with 4 substatial bolts. That would be my way, at least then i have replaced the weaker part. Its only my opinion, and i should be able to offer it on a public forum without people turning into little kids.

Brit does seem to have an offensive blunt tone to his posts (although i aggree with the technical content of his posts 100%)

:D

Do the front springs have to come from the MK1 Focus RS (with tops and bearings), is there any other alternative ?

I can't seem to find any Focus MK1 RS springs anywhere apart from the dealers, anyone know of any ?

cheers

 course not wobby!! Me and you are cool :D
Was just trying to bring the topic back on track and not into a mass discussion on whose technique or theory is correct.

Oh and as for picking on my drawings   they where not the best, well they where shite! but I just had an idea of a hanger type fitting, that went under the bottom plate and dressed back over the top of the axle, so any downward pressure would be counteracted as it would pull down on the axle itself not the bolts.

Andy: the front setup is a pain in the arse, you can try the passion ford forum for the springs as they usually have a mk1 rs being broke, or a few spares. OR, Mylee was starting a group buy for some custom springs that where basically the same profile and compression rate as the RS ones but with connect tops, so no need for cups and bearings, drop him a pm to see if it's still available.

Hope that helps :D

have spoken to my ford dealer today.have been told the mk 1 rs runs the same setup as a standard focus but just lower springs

so you can use the standard top cups (part number is the same for rs and standard) £26 each from fords or use your local breakers

springs- try using lowered springs for a standard focus or ford can supply you rs spring for £80 each
