Confused on Gross payload weight

Postby DerbyDave1 » Wed Feb 01, 2012 9:09 pm

I'm looking for a new transit but it can't exceed the 350 model due to my licence, but I need one that can hold the most gross payload weight.

I was told at a local van dealer I need a Jumbo twin/dual wheelbase, which they said all of them can hold over 2,000kg gross payload. However, reading through google, this isn't the case.

Am I right in thinking the only van that can have a gross payload of over 2,000kg and doesn't exceed the 350 model, is the 350 HD Jumbo? Or am I wrong?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks.

This has all the specs, find a sales person who knows what they are talking about. The larger the van, roof, length etc the less weight it can carry, assuming all 350s

Looks like Mr Bill Bullsh** was just trying to offload me one of his vans.

Cheers for the info. What size holds up to 1600?

A fwd will carry more than a rwd due to not having a rear diff

Reading through that link it says the Jumbo dual rear wheel. 350HD and the 460 can hold up to 2238kg gross payload?

According to Fords website the payloads are as follows dependent on spec chosen:
LWB 350 has a gross payload upto 1576kgs.
The Jumbo 350 with single rear wheels has a gross Payload upto 1287kgs
The Jumbo 350HD with dual rear wheels has a gross payload upto 1184kgs
The Jumbo 460 with dual rear wheels has a gross payload upto 2238kgs

The standard LWB 350 will carry the most.
At the end of the day for a 350 to have a payload of 2000kgs it would have to weigh less than 1500kgs empty and the lightest swb low roof weighs in at 1728kgs.

Cheers for the info everyone.

I was getting confused as the Ford site had both 350HD and the 460 in the same brackets. So reading through it I thought both had the same gross payload.

I'll be going for the LWB standard as I had before. I have the MWB now but it isn't long enough. It also says in the cab it can only hold 980 something kg. But it hasn't got any extra weight. Fittings etc. :?

Download the e-brochure on fords site, it has all the info you need in the weights and payload section.

Bear in mind that quoted payload figures do not include ply lining, racking, roof racks etc etc
