1991 Mk3 Reimo Campavan Makeover

Postby ColinJack » Sat Feb 25, 2012 12:18 pm

Just acquired a 1991 Mk3 Reimo campavan. Done roughly 100k and is in pretty good nick for her age. Some rust on panels but fine underneath. Previous owner had done quite a lot of work.:

First stage is replacing some of the rusted panels - so two back doors, NS front door and wheels arches. Sills are okay.
After that respray in 'Aga Blue' ...

Would be interesting to see what else it has, has it got headlight leveling? thats one of the things I want to add, but the bits are hard to find for the MK3 here. Transitjono managed to source the bits from Russia I think.

Yes, got the headlight leveller. Dash lights are pretty dire though. Need to brighten those up (like the idea of blue LED but am currently trying to work out how to sort that out).

Easy job, did that myself, before I yanked it out and replaced it with a mondeo one.
First thing to do is remove the bulb covers inside the cluster, that will make them a lot brighter, then just fit some LED 501 bulbs...

But had this in for a number of years now, but Im now thinking of something different

Brilliant - thanks for that. How easy is it to swap for a Mondeo cluster with this Tranny? Yours looks the Dog's doodads! :)

Fitted the clocks is matter of some soldering new loom plugs on etc. but the dash surround was a bit harder

Cheers - I will have a read up. Which clocks to go for (bearing in mind the age of my van)? Mondeo Diesel Mk3?

If you went down the mondeo route, then cable driven diesel ones, have a look at Guy88 thread viewtopic.php?f=18&t=6665

Just managed to locate some KN Vantec 2 alloys (along with some hen's teeth )

Image

Hoping to load them with some Continental Vanco 2 215/60/16 tyres ... clearance looks okay to me.

Brand new (although no warranty) - £295 the set with £17.50 delivery from Midland Wheels. One got damaged in transit and they have agreed to replace it without any quibble. Seem to be a pretty good source for wheels - 100% fleabay rating on over 2000 deals.

Schoolboy error! I only checked the front wheels before sending it off to body shop hospital to have new panels fitted. All four wheel trims showed a 5 stud fitting so assumed front and back would be the same, but it seems it has the heavy duty six stud (6 x 170) wheels on the back! The kingpins need doing anyway so hopefully I can get some matching front hubs. Downside is that from looking at various posting on this forum I'm doomed as far as getting some decent wheels is concerned!!

So my new Vantec 2 alloys are available - stand me in £312.50 (£295 + 17.50 carriage) if anybody is interested, PM me and you can have them for that.
