Is it that there's something wrong with your tank, or are you looking for more capacity? I know that the Mk1 and Mk2 tanks are basically the same (Fords, bless em too tight to make a new tank!) But the Mk3 has an injection moulded plastic tank, which is made to fit around the crossmembers of the Mk3, which I suspect are different to Mk2s.

Good point I hadn't thought of that! But the chassis cab one has an opening at the top, and the panel van has one at one end, so I am sure if you are really determined you could fit some wide bore pipe to the filler.

with a little jiggery pokery .... you might be able to make a mk3 one fit the opposite side on a mk1 or 2 .... not sure what you'd do about the filler neck hole .... LHD panel maybe ??

rusty metal thing ????? .... the one i have is galvenised, so unless yours has had a real hard life, it should be fine, give it a light rub down with a wire brush (not too violent) and have a look then, check the seams arent seperating and look inside, mine looked fairly bad, but after i cleaned it and looked inside i found it was perfect, and actually in dam good nick

just one thing ... be very careful about fitting a tank that is lower than the side skirts of your van, as technically it should fail the mot.

if you go for a replacement, get a diesel one if you can, diesel is basically an oil and will helpl to preserve the inside of the tank, and also they were fitted with the return feed tube to the sensor and pickup plate. (could be useful later for deisel or injection conversion)

Bear in mind the diesel and petrol sender units are slightly different, always got our changed with the conversion. Wish I had asked for the old ones back now, as tha Mk3 senders just don't get on with the dashboards!

You are so right, I will try to remember this in future. On the other hand, i do get a bit p*ssed of when I throw the back of the van open, inevetably with a customer present, and there staring us in the face is some grasy dead bit of Transit the mechanic has put in the back without telling me. Worst case was a 4 spead gearbox!!!!!
