If you dont have an airbag you will have to have the electronics sorted otherwise the light will show and it will fail an M.O.T

you're thinking of the ABS - no part of the airbag system is a testable item

No I'm not!

If the air-bag light is flashing the tester can fail it on 'general vehicle condition' items, most wont but you only need an overzealous tester and you have problems :(

I've been a VOSA nominated tester since 1993 and at no time has any airbag component been subject to test - a loose exception could be if someone presented a car for test with a steering wheel in which the air bag had already been deployed leaving sharp edges on the plastic cover

reason for rejection would be something like "steering wheel in a condition likely to injure the driver" - anything else on the airbag can only be advised (and thats only if the tester feels like it - he has no obligation to do so)

here's a link to the testers manual - it's simple if it's not in here - it's not subject to test

I already have a current testers manual and all the updates when they come out, we'll just have to agree to differ on this one mate!

rover, out of interest what would you fail it as?

I've held a class 4 and 7 ticket for a number of years and never come across a valid reason for rejection for an SRS light on.

As the system isn't part of the test, non of it's components can be held as reason for failure.

As mentioned earlier, a deployed airbag could lead to failure of the test as part of steering controls.

If a tester notices any warning lamp outside of the test requirements, it should be noted as an advisory.
