Tuning parts for a 2011 Connect

Postby reaper73 » Thu Jul 26, 2012 8:27 pm

Hi all,
I drive a Connect built in 2011 with 110 hp TDCI and search for various tuning parts.
First Lowering the front axle.
Second Exhaust system or muffler
Third spotlight
4th Strut
5th has anyone had experience with chip tuning?
6th a front bull bar in black, as in U.S. Police cars
7th an underride protection

That's it for today!

Thank you. .. reaper

Power tools LOL, no got a local steel fabricator lined up to do me a couple. Just not sure weather or not to get the 5th middle hole bang in the middle or off set fwd due to the axle not sitting in the middle of the arch once lowered.... Mmmm decisions ?

How much do you need to move the centre hole to line the axle up? And is it moved towards the front of the van or the rear?

I've been speaking to another member on here and he has to re drill his centre hole 15mm towards the front of the van thus moving the axle back. But I'm not saying 15mm is the norm. I know Valetech has had problems in the past but seems to be able to sort them very easily.

i had an issue with the axle not sitting in the middle.... this issue arises because the leaf spring pivots just ahead of the rear wheel, so lowering the van puts the wheel nearer the end of its movement arc, so the wheel is closer to the front of the van.

The lower the van the closer to the top of the arc so the closer the wheel is to the front of the van..... that's why a standard height van has the wheel in the middle of the arch because it is at the centre of the arc.

(so by moving the axle back you can reposition the wheel in the arch)

Image

As seen here..... the wheel was too far forward.

Image

Image

The edge of the tyre is 70mm ( from the bottom of the arch ) at the rear and 100mm ( from the bottom of the arch ) at the front, so moving it 15mm will make the wheel 85mm from each edge.

The plate that the leaf spring bolts to has 5 holes in it ( like a 5 on the face of a dice ), SEE CRUDE PIC BELOW...

Image

The leaf springs have a pin through them which locates in the centre hole, so moving the hole will move the axle position.

So to move the wheel into a central position i had to get the centre hole on the plate welded up and re-drilled 15mm FORWARD ( so the hole is 15mm further towards the FRONT of the van ), this will bring the axle 15mm BACK thus making the wheel central.

Image

SO IF YOU MEASURE YOUR WHEELS DISTANCE FROM THE ARCH YOU WILL BE ABLE TO WORK OUT HOW MUCH YOU NEED TO MOVE THE AXLE ( IE MOVE THE HOLE WHERE THE LEAF SPRING PIN LOCATES ).

hope this helps

Andy you explain it very well thanks (again) but I'm having my plated made and wanted th holes all drilled and ready to go straight on so I as looking for a defo measurement without fitting and unbolting and re drilling etc. so was gonna get centre hole drilled 15 mm fwd ??

i agree with some of it,BUT you do not need to move the axle back for it to sit in the middle
