Hi folks
Took the old gel out for the first time in five years.
since i changed the back axle & added a trans oil
cooler with electric fan.
4barrell carb & dual plane manifold.
24v electrics & very large alternator.
also new water pump & fuel pump.
A stainless steel fuel tank as it needed
a larger one as the bigger engine might use more
fuel, especialy if one decides to put the pedal to the metal.
Also there was no interior in the back of the camper but that
has all been fitted,
The journey was a very uncumfortable ride as the tyre presures
were much to high & the gearchange sluggish would not change
down under hard exceleration.
had a nice breakfast ajusted tyre pressures & went home.
the ride home was much more comfortable.
will add more soon.

you will be pleased to know i have done away
with the front & rear wheel trims, they were
just to see what they looked like.
I have retained the front hub caps & fitted
stainless steel wheel embelishers.
As you will see later i change the rear wheels
completely.

Hi Guys
Iam not very good at this sort of thing,
but will try to make the story about my
landliner as interesting as possible from
the begining.
excuse spelling as i am not to hot on
the subject.
I first drove a 1966 transit pick up in the
seventies it was a great workhorse & i
liked the v4 engine & the shape of the
cab.
so years later after owning about six or
seven different campers the last one
being a six & a half ton yank I decided
on a transit. The reason for selling the
yank was our three daughters had grown
& flown & now have kids of their own.

It had to have most of the luxuries of the
yank. power steering. cruise control.
automatic gearbox.powerful engine.
If i get too boring someone tell me to shut up.

After looking at a lot of campers of all shapes
& sizes, There was nothing i could find in my
price range that had any appeal to me.
So i decided to buy a suitable vehicle to convert
to my dream camper.

Hi i'm back with next instalment.

While taking my car to the m o t shop i found myself following a breakdown
truck with a landliner on the hook.
I had always fancied landliners because they were based on the mark 1
transit and i liked their body shape compared to all the other campers
i had seen in the past.
Fortunately the truck turned into the same industrial estate i was visiting
so it was a good opportunity to chat to the driver who had stopped for a cuppa.
He was taking it to a breakers yard. It had been partly restored but the owner
had been beaten into submission by his nagging wife who did not share his
enthusiasm for landliners.
After talking to the driver and looking closely underneath,
A compromise between what was asked and what was offered was struck,
including delivery.
When it arrived the look of horror on my wife's face was a picture.
"what have you bought now she stammered?" " you can take that away now
i don't want that cluttering up my back garden parking place".
After i made her a nie cup of tea she calmed down and agreed to look
inside. I think the recovered Captain's chairs with built in headrests and
two arm rests won her over as they were so comfortable.
It sat for about a year while i looked for an engine and gearbox to fit into it
that would have the power i wanted to climb hills and attain cruising speed
effortlessly. It also had to have a auto gearbox.

Unfortunatly i will be on holiday in dorset in my landliner when transit mania
is on at Billing Aquadrome.
but hopefully will catch up with some of you at other meetings.
I took the old gel out last saturday after sorting out some
teething problems & took her up to four thousand revs in top
gear, it was quiet exilerating.
She drove like a car so easy to drive with the power steering
and disc brakes all round. She goes round corners so fast i
was sliding out of my seat.
Will be looking for some buckett seats in the future when funds
are available.
