Mk5 turbo work bus :)

Postby Panda » Thu Aug 02, 2012 7:28 pm

Having recently setup my own fabrication shop I needed a van. And on a small budget of 1k.
Having had mk6s in the past I knew even with Chucking another 500 in I was buying into trouble. A pump dieing on me would kill me business wise.
Having had an ex-rac before I knew what I fancied.
I'm not scared of a bit of work so picked up this for not much more than scrap its stock shed load of receipts and only bit done to it is the pump replaced with one off a different engine that's allegedly better not sure what it is but it goes better than my old one.
She's mint floor wise just the arches are mega grotty :(

Image

Plan is to weld up the arches and paint the swage line down.

I've started g3'ing the top half looks like she'll look tidy again with the bottom half sorted :)

Image

Trying to find out what pcd they are so I can sort some rims :)

PCD is 6 x 180mm - and its unique to transits (and possibly '70's JCBs)

I'm presuming the injection pump has been changed to a Bosch mechanical pump, rather than the standard turbo engines Lucas EPIC :)

Bosch pump is easy to tune for a bit more poke, and you can happily run veg oil :D

Looks a nice van though :)

Turn the max fuel screw up until it produces a light smoke haze on boost.
adjust the torque top screw to control smoke off boost....

if you want, and you fit a boost gauge, you can tweak the boost up a little on the turbo....

oh, and since you have a bosch pump, you could fit an intercooler if you want (unless it already has one).....

A cheap ebay intercooler will be fine :)

Perhaps a bit oversized for tge standard turbo but nothing major :P

As for max boost, around 1 bar (just under 15psi)...
You can go more than that but the turbo will be outside its efficiency range....

If you have 85ps injectors, then a set if 100ps injectors will give you a bit more poke....

According to most, if you increase the boost to 1 bar, fit 100ps injectors, fit an intercooler and tune the fuelling you should be up near 130bhp :D

Obviously......you could go further
