MK6 Recovery Truck

Postby chrisr » Sat Sep 08, 2012 4:08 pm

After owning 2 previous Transit recovery trucks & selling them for some silly reason I reverted awa for a bit & bought a VW LT 35 Truck,

The LT was a nice looking truck but was a non turbo one so I dint keep it long, Sold that & bought an Isuzu but didnt do my research & didnt know I needed an operators licence to use it (Even though was private use)

Sold the Isuzu & used my Freelander & Tow dolly for a few weeks until I found another Transit, I was looking on all the usual sites like Ebay, Gumtree & Auto trader but couldnt find any I liked that were local enough,

Anyway after speaking to my mate last week he mentioned he would be selling his so I ended up with that one. Needs a few small jobs doing to it but its got 12 months MOT & 6 Months tax & he had the body made 2 months ago, Its 1 previous owner & 140 k on it.

Pics of the ones I have owned lately:

My first one

Sold that to a guy in Scarborugh (Still uses it now)

Replaced the P reg one with this

Flywheel started to rattle so ended up selling it & buying the LT

Really was tooooo Slow so didnt last long & replace it with this

Then finally to my new Transit

Got a few plans for it like fit Parrot Hands free, Sun Visor, Wind delectors, New LED Beacons on roof, LED Side marker & rear marker lights

There were valid reasons for changing them though.

The P reg one the body was slightly too small,
The Red transit needed a clutch / Flywheel & clutch cylinder & MOT was due as long with the Tax,
The VW was non turbo & was very slow on Motorway,
The Isuzu I bought without realisinh I needed an operators licence to run it.

The insite of the Transit was very very dirty, Even had rotten food under the seats!

Decided to give it a good clean inside & out today, Used some G101 from Autosmart & sprayed it all over the floor & plastics, Also used hot soapy water & a sponge to agitate all the built up dirt, Hoovered all water out with my Numatic wet vac,

Gave the glass a good clean inside & out & then a quick machine polish & wax followed by treating the mirrors & bumpers.

Some pics (Not the best as they were on my phone)

The rear fuel tank snapped the other day resulting in the tank dropping down slightly, Luckily there was only about £10 of fuel in it, So a quick trip to Ford & bought a new one for £22 & back on the road again now :D

Ordered some splash proof seat covers off Ebay the other day, They arrived this morning & I proceded to get them fitted, Wuite happy with the end result

Went to see Ian from JLS http://www.jls-security.co.uk/ this afternoon to get my hands free kit fitted, Cheers for that Ian
