Leave valve and all pipework/wiring connections in place, just blank the pipe from the exhaust side by cutting a plate from a piece of steel, like a gasket but without the big hole in the middle

Hi Ake,
I had a chat with a local independent mechanic - he said that if the egr is blanked mpg will decrease, the engine would burn more fuel and be less efficient.
Now I' am unsure what to do with the egr! Whether to blank it off or not.

I thought that with the egr blanked = less crud in system ie.. inlet manifold, and the engine would be better for it, with out the loss of mpg?!

What is best to do with the egr? Also If I blank it off will the sensor/s lights come on and stay on?!
Ake....Is it possible to just unplug the main switch off the top of the egr valve, and leave this off, then remove vacuum pipe at top and block this with a bolt or similar that would put an end cap on, therefore blocking the vacuum. If the above is done - is this not the same as blanking the egr, and pipe?

On a mk 6 blanking egr will improve mpg and possibly power. Unplugging it will throw up fault codes as will removing the vac pipe, that's why I said just blank it on the exhaust side, this way it stops the crud getting thru but the ecu sees it as working so is happy

Hi all,

I plan to clean out my inlet and EGR soon but having trouble finding it on my 260
I just took this picture but it never came out that well. Is the etg attached to a triangular plate?

What do I need to remove to get at it guys?
Any help appriciated,

Ahh thanks Meat thumper, was looking in wrong place. Will have another look tomorrow.

Also, should there be a cover over the engine near the injectors do you know?

Hi again guys

Right, i did the inlet manifold and ports yesterday and it was filled bad. One port was almost blocked completely, i filled nearly half a bucket with all the gunk.
Van is much smoother now and I can feel the turbo when it kicks in.

But I still have not done the egr which I really would like to do - but i just cannot find it.
Please see;



If it is the above it is more near the front then rear. I have looked under the pipe which was pointed out by someone and cannot see it there.
I have the blanking plate coming in the post so hopefully can clean and install at same time,

I don't get it!

If these EGR valves are so useless and can be "blanked off" without affecting emissions tests at the MOT what on earth did Ford put them on for?

Ford fit them because eu regs require them, on a brand new engine they reduce the emmision levels, however the side effect soon outweigh the benefits

Yep, as said. They soon become more trouble then they are worth.

If you can help guys, please do. I'm almost sure the part above is the EGR but I am struggling to remove.

How many bolts is on the egr to release it, is it 4 8mm bolts?

Is it worth blanking off the valve on a new van or would that void the warranty ?
