Steering Wheel Boss

I find it strange that non of the big aftermarket steering wheel companies can supply a boss for the Transit Halfords in Woking were most helpful offering all they had in stock to see if any fitted but none did They are all splined for 180 degrees with no blank at the top
Anyone got any suggestions

I used a boss from a mk1 escort on the last van that i swapped steering wheels on (1986 mk2) if the splines are the same on the later vans you could file the blank part into the boss carefully with a needle file.

capri boss fits the Mk2, thats what i have on mine at the mo but no blank
have you tried the vanshop? his site seems to be down at the mo?

As madvanman says you can file the large spline - as i did 1st time i did one 2nd time i used a dremmel (die grinder) much, much easier and quicker!!!
This makes the mk3,4&5 splines the same as the mk1&2

steering wheel bosses from a capri fit on a 1990 g reg transit as i have a custom wheel in my pick up,got my boss from a scrap yard a few years ago,but most halfords sell em for a capri.only thing is my indicators dont cancel there should be a little bit of metal on the boss to cancel them,if you want you could just fit a later transit wheel and indicator and wiper switches i think they fit???

ive got a capri boss on a 1997 smiley face and it fits fine dont worry about the flat bit, i just tightened it up tight and it makes it own flat bit

Well, I've taken your advice and tonight ordered a Mk2 Capri Boss, so, hopefully, by this weekend, I shall be thanking or cursing everyone.

If you cannot wait to find out how I manage, I got it, "off the shelf" from Speed Shack, in West Drayton (a couple of miles north of Heathrow).

These guys are really and stock 2nd hand, as well as new bits, mainly for the "Hot Thatch" Brigade. I got my Wolfrace 14" X 5 1/2J from them 4-5 years ago ( I will post this info where people are looking for wheels too)

Using a Mountney model "M-1026X" (for Capri Mk1,2 & 3; Escort Mk1; Cortina Mk2 and Anglia) I have successfully fitted my Momo steering wheel using the following sequence:-

1. Make sure you lock your steering straight ahead before removing your stock wheel

2. Note where the inverted triangle is on the new cage and mark the aluminium boss; use a scribe, nail or similar because felt-tip rubs off

3. Dis-assemble cage and boss if already assembled

4. Offer up the boss to the steering column with a torch shining onto the column behind the boss so you can see where the flat area is on the column and align the mark showing the “topâ€Â

i think mk1 and mk2 capri are the same, its mk1 escort not mk2 they are different and mountney and momo are different astrali and mountney are the same tho
