Flame start timings.

Postby vanfox » Thu Dec 06, 2012 5:27 pm

As it says, would someone who has a flame start system kindly furnish me with the timings for the system as in, how long the plug glows before the fuel valve opens, how long the fuel flows for and how long before you turn the key to start?

OR, has anyone got a flame start system less the plug for sale?

Usually only a squirt of fuel from the leak off or a dedicated reservoir.

Only. Needs a little bit to generate heat in inlet...

Hope this helps.

Would imagine about 5 or so seconds to fully heat flame plug ...

The factory setup pulls the diesel from the top of the fuel filter housing without a pump. The pressure generated when cranking forces the diesel out. (Presumably there is a shut off solenoid too - but I can't remember)

As soon as the van has started its redundant... so I would take a power feed off the starter wire

only one I've seen was on my Iveco daily

fuel came from the back of the injection pump, under pressure from the lift pump next to the fuel tank
(had a small solenoid to turn it on/off)

it only ever ran when it was really really cold... -5'C etc..

light would come on with ignition to say it was working, go off after a good 30sec or more, then you start it, and it would come back on for another 2min while the engine was running

planning going somewhere cold ?
