Cylinder contribution/balance test, faulty injector

Postby andyt1981 » Sun Mar 12, 2017 1:14 pm

post regarding cylinder contribution/balance test (knocking engine) trying to find bad injector as getting bit of tapping/knocking . results this was at 2000rpm

using forscan. Am i right in saying No 1 and 3 are not working right and forcing others to work harder or is no 3 only one working.

CylBal_1, mg 0.024
CylBal_2, mg -2.161

Have you checked the injector calibration numbers are correct for the cylinders they are fitted in ?
Did you put them back in same cylinders after doing the repairs you've done ?

Had injector pilot correction learn routines done.?
(Pref doing pcm update and pump learn first.)

As Frag says...best to get a PCM update done, (if required), then all the normal learns done...this may help with your issue. The injectors, SCV, PRV and pumps do wear over time and need an "adjustment" every now and then to keep things in order.

Done that, balance test now shows different info from before. ie the ones that where -2.161 are now 1.5 and vice versa. o and also it has thrown up new code P0623 generator lamp control circuit with battery light on.

resolved problem with battery, connection on starter to alternator was touching body of starter. I am going to do leak off test this saturday. bought kit off ebay for £22 . will post results. I have read loads different opinions on how long and revs. some say idle for 5 mins, some say 3000rpm for 3 mins and leak off should be between 25 and 40ml. anyone care to clarify? cheers

Manifold off
Injectors out
Glow plugs out :)
Both the rear injector and even the glow plug seemed bad

Changing the glow plugs and the one injector and cleaning the intakes, manifold and the EGR.
Manifold seemed not so bad/dirty

Well...
Probably the best day so far, as far as progression concerned.

I now have a completely cleaned manifold, intake and EGR (which was actually quite clean at first)
The injectors are fitted with new washers, both the rubber ones and copper. 1 is replaced with one from the breaker.

Pcm update done and injector lean successfully completed.

The aux. heater is now working as the (another one again!!) power line was totally corroded at the connection so I had to make a new wire bypassing the connection. The aux header coughed 2 times and fired up! Yes!

Wipers are working again. It was also the connection... But they are not returning 100 percent... I'll look in to take.

Turbo is still not working properly.. It's electrical :(
