does anyone know what other diesel engine would fit into a smiley? i am sure i read somewhere that you can fit a 2.8 isuzu in it but am not 100% sure if this is possible. would one of the new 3.0 166hp iveco engines fit or is this a bit much? any help would be great it is just annoying to keep having probs with my 2.5 i have spent too much on it now so would like to try something different just looked at the specs of the iveco lump seems to be great choice if it will fit 350,000km before timing chain replacement! 10hp more than a sprinter and one cylinder less!! looks very compact!

You could fit anything if you have the right tools. Big hammer, gas axe and a welder!

from working the other way (banana into m**c sp****er) i know the m**c 2.3 will fit
mounts match near enough on engine (needs 2 holes for merc mounts but i think the ford ones would catch 1 hole on the merc mounting leg), gearbox mount needs holes for mount redrilling fore and aft instead of side to side and prop would need to have a couple of inches added and flanges swopped to match
it would need a relay and wires for the heater plugs and the air res and pipes for the vac pump
and a few wires moved , if its a speed censor box they will swop into the box
only hard bit is changing from cable to hydrolic clutch

hi mate didnt realise you could chip the 2.5 td my engine has got about 70k on it so it should be able to handle the extra power any idea on the cost of getting it chipped i am hoping to get the dump valve fitted soon so if derv doctors can chip it at the same time it would be great :D

yeah it can chip ,its about £300 ,its worth me doing it as i got the van cheap and the van and engine is in A1 condition , when i got the dump valve put on the transit i had a turbo boost gauge fitted too in pod on the dash, thinking back to when i had the transit i thought it was the 100ps model but comperd to this ldv i think it might of been the 85ps

so about £300 for a chip which you say is about 30bhp more and £250ish for the dump valve 8) will have to wait until february now as have got to get a respray 1st. hmmm a 130bhp hicube should eat spr**ters easily  i take it the £300 is for it fitted like the dump valve??

Yeah thats fitted takes about 4hrs , it gives more power and more miles to the gallon and less smoke , i payed £1400 for the ldv 2000 model , the way i look at it is an extra £300 i will have a 130bhp van so thats£1700 , for a 130bhp spriter ya talking like £5000+ , alright its an ldv not the best vans around but i dont mind them

ldv's are ok but the suspension seems to be made of concrete other than that they are ok but i prefer my mk5 transits 8) ye f**k sprin**rs my uncle works for a place with a fleet of them he reckons each one has a new engine each year  sod that :) every time you see an ambulance round my area (99.9% of the fleet is sprin**rs) it is on the back of a recovery truck

yeah the suspension is hard , transits are smoother , hopefully i will have a compressor install in the van which im gonna get a air seat out of a truck so then the ride be quite comfy, the old sprinters 310/312 i much preferd over the newer style one 311/313 ,i drove a 311 few months ago which i wasnt really impressed  , to be honest the newer merc commercail are a load of rubbish from a 7.5 tonner upto an arttic , i was driving a 05 reg merc actross which i would of gladly jumped out of to drive sumot like a old renualt :D

i just remember a local breakers yard had a sprinter ambulance in and the body looked ok and the engine was in bits

i got a spring suspension seat in my luton....if i had a compressor i would put a air seat in that....you can get electric 12 volt air compressors.not tyre compressors they dont like being run for more than 15 mins at a time.look in scrap yards for a transit with air suspension and get the electric compressor out of that..there is one fitted on a mk3 minibus i drive every now and then....
