Just a quick announcement. I'm sure you've noticed that we've now upgraded the forum to the latest version and also moved to a new server. That's what all the down time today was about.
I'm afraid I have some bad news though. All did not go smoothly and I made a bit of a bodge up. By mistakenly executing a command I ran last week I managed overwrite the database we have been using over this past week. Possibly the dumbest thing I've ever done during my time as a web developer!
During the migration process I had to copy the database from one machine to another. What I forgot is that I'd already copied the database last week to improve the speed of the board. So when I copied it again, obviously it took data that was a week old and wiped over the latest copy. Not good. I can only apologise for all the lost posts, new members registration details, private messages and any profile changes which were made over the last week, which are unfortunately now lost.
What about backups you ask? Well as I only moved the database, rather than the whole site, I forgot to include the database in the backup schedule. This would have been done automatically if I moved the whole site as I've done today. All in all, I'm very frustrated because I'd planned this whole transfer process step by step, knowing how easy it is to make a mistake... then I go and do the worst possible one. Doh!
Anyway, the forum is now back up and running. If you registered in the last week or so and find you can't log in, please accept my apologies and register again. Rest assured, the whole site is now on the daily backup schedule!
