Mk3 armoured van

Postby Eugene Speed » Wed Mar 28, 2012 5:11 pm

Finally managed to bag this little beauty before it was shipped to mainland Europe! 1988 130 LWB armoured security van, as seen in the latest TV commercial for the Guardian newspaper. Now the dilemma of should I bolt the County 4x4 running gear underneath and make it even meaner!!! 8)

Bullbar isn't real, it's wood and plastic!

It was mocked up for a tv advert, it will be coming off, as will the windscreen grilles. Not sure on the legality of the police graphics, we'll find out when I drive it back!

Insurance with Adrian Flux is £780 TPF&T, no windscreen cover included...

It's actually in pretty good nick, tidy underneath and started first flick of the key. Very claustrophobic in the cab though!

Some more pics...

Leave her as she is (original, not county) she's a rare survivor, and the younger sister of our Mk2 bullion van!

I have found her 'sister' van on this webpage, looks like a mk4 built by the same company, slight differences in the windsceen and the side windows. There is also another one, slightly different again with a hatch in the rear door, both vans together here. Looks like they get some film/tv work, maybe I need to start touting my one around!

My one is an 'E' reg 1988 model year so Mk3, the ones on the Tellycars site are Mk4, have a close look at the front grille, is mk4 covered by 'S' reg?

That is the cheapest I could get, most firms won't touch it due to the modified windows etc. I pay £500 a year for the County, she isn't classed as 'modified' as the County conversion was done prior to original registration and sale. As soon as I mentioned 'security van' or 'armoured windows' they pretty much all ran away!!!
