Seatbelt regulations / laws

Postby Rocket Rob » Wed Sep 05, 2007 6:44 pm

Hello all ...

Apologies if this has been covered previously, but would appreciate any available information ...

1) Can anybody tell me law regarding seatbelts for bench seats, and how I need to go about fitting them, don't really want lap belts due to having kids in the back in car seats ... safety is everything ....

2) Can people actually travel in the back legally if there are only bench seats fitted??? and does this effect the insurance cost ???

3) Can a 3 seater minibus seat be turned around so it is facing towards the rear of the minibus ..... is this leagal ???

4) does anyone know of any decently priced insurance companies ??

Many Thanks

1. If the seats are facing forward of back then seatbelts MUST be fitted. sideways facing seats are exempt. MK5 minibus seats have 3 point belts fitted to the seat

2. As long as they are belted in and you are insured to carry them then Yes

3. Yes and yes as long as there is belts

4. I am with norwich union and they say a 15% increase per seat BUT they must be fitted by a qualified motor mechanic.

I am changing to NFU soon and the seats have made no difference to the premium

Mine has a double seat in the back and is insured with Budget and having them didn't make the insurance any dearer.
Blue 1998 Ford transit 2.5di 70ps 120 swb low roof Mk5 with 5 seats. 1.5 turns on pump, egr butterfly removed and a stainless steel Urban X funnel air filter fitted. Now happily burning SVO.
