'Sort of' mod!

The battery on my 190 Popular was a bit dodgy and on cold mornings I had to jump start it. Sometimes I didn't have my car to start it with and ALL the time I couldn't be bothered to go through the rigmarole of opening the bonnet and using jump leads.

So what I did was wire a length of t&e to the battery terminals with the other end in the cab and got a handheld jump start/booster so I could jump start from inside the cab.

Sounds like the standard bad connection stopping it from staring, you could sort this then you wouldn't need to jump it at all!

IIRC it was 2.5mm t&e.

I don't think it was a bad connection. Maybe that was what was causing the battery not to charge in the first place. Where is the usual bad connection?

Normally a bad earth between the battery and the starter, very common just do a search for bad starting and you'll see.

It was a temporary measure but 'nothing is more permanent than something that is temporary'!

In any case 2.5mm can take 40-50A easily and this was just a booster.

have to get my books out ,but..
on 230v a 20A fuse would be used with 2.5 t&e

all you have to do is look at the size cable on a set of jump leads or the red cable going from the battery to the starter , its ALOT bigger

I was thinking of a shower which can draw about 40A but uses 10mm cable. (But still not 50-60A!)

I think I'll get my coat before I make any more gaffes!

a starter can draw over 100a at peak if the batteries dead

My anderson plug is rated to 175 and that has 13mm2

2.5 T+E is only rated at 24A and thats @240 AC.
