rear axle

as i have found out on the forum the axle in a mk5 will stop the top end on the van it also wont take much power

so after a chat with luke last night we stumbled on the idea of a xjs rear axle

reason for doing this it has disc brakes

can handle more power

and has the right pcd for the wheels

My axle seems to have put up with the power for a few thousand miles.

a company called kam diffs does a 3.9:1 diff for transits, that should give a prety good top end

can supply a diff of all ratios for £159
could be useful for the cossie conversions

What's involved in swapping these diffs then?
Is it a ball ache of a job?
Do I need a pit or ramp thingy? bearing in mind I have a high cube drw beasty

Might still be worth the phone call, that is a 2 year old price list, so for sure those stock levels will be wrong even if their prices haven't changed...also very unlikely.

You don't want much then!
What ratio do you have at the moment? You'll probably have 5.14 or even the really high ration that I can't seem to remeber.
You can get a 4.63 axle for your van. Anything lower than that and you're into getting it specially made.
Aren't those prices just the crown wheel and pinion not the whole axle?

just looking on ebay there's an xj6 axle and the seller says its 58.6 inches wide - which is 1488mm and a transit mk3 1693mm
mow you would need some deep dish wheels to fill the arches
