Why would he need two? The van already has one!

I suppose it depends on what you want to run... I often park the van for the weekend and use the lights and a TV which I found run it down after one night, but with two, so far so good, although I havent been 3 days yet.
If its for amps etc then one larger one will do the job easily. :)
The engine has got 2 already :!: :!: :!:

This is a topic i need to investigate further, i used a split charging relay in my van and the fridge drained the battery, when i started the van,i think my alternator (110 amp) shoved so much charge through the fuse went first(10amp) so then i put in 30 amp fuse and the relay melted  how do you know what amp relay to fit and why did the split charge relay melt?? :?

I have been told to fit a relay the same as the alternator so for you would be 110a

Then even if all the charge whent through it it would still work and not burn the relay out. Id probably fit a 30a fuse in mine 8)

Sounds like the relay wernt rated high enough or was faulty inside :?

I have a 30A fuse in mine which does get a little hot at times and has to be replaced. Its the same old story, poor connections, causes high resistance = heat.

Done some further research

Postby zaphod79 » Wed Feb 14, 2007 4:54 pm

Hoping to fit my leisure battery next week, if work doesn't get in the way! Found a reasonable relay at

http://www.autoelectricsupplies.co.uk/product/177 much cheaper than the £60 previous ally.

The landrover wire diagram was of great use, i have also found another diagram

http://www.kampenwagen.co.uk/images/Spl ... _relay.gif

I have also seen a cut off switch mentioned previously on this thread. Does any one know where abouts i would fit that, so that i could switch off each battery independently.
