Luke,

My Mk 3 is a beam/king pin axle, not IFS.... but the engine mounts are different?..... s'funny? .....

I think if you put a rag between the clutch - side bulk head and the cam cover, then use the bulkhead as a fulcrum as you manouver the engine in, you should get away with no scratches, ........ :)

good luck

cheers

93 should be ifs and mk4 :? im a bit annoyed i didnt think of this before cos it needs a fair bit of alteration :x i might try my pas rack to see if it is any smaller - doubt it but worth a try as thats whats going on in the end :D

rover wrote:I assume you have plenty of crossmembers hanging around Luke? If not I have one here that was supporting a MT75 in a Mk2, its yours if you want it.
yes mate i got quite a few knocking about  ive just been messing and in the correct position (gearbox) its even worse for clearance :(

rover wrote:It would be nice to think you can get it (the engine) in and out without scratching the paint but I'm doubting it, plus you still have to take into consideration how much 'twist' you will get when you put you foot down, even with good mounts you still get about 20mm of lift one side of the engine :!:
true also the rubbers ive got on are old and when i fit new ones thats gonna alter it too :(

just been looking and the coil pack is a major problem too :x and i still havent got the plenum on :(

right :D ............ got the plenum on/off with the engine fitted 8) loads of room now i altered the angle of the gearbox as it was catching on the rack  only prob now is it sits very high at the rear, i think i'll shim the front mounts up a bit ¼" should do it :D ive also got the non pas rack on! the mount is a bit of a mess now but i'll tidy it up once its off the van, not sure if the pas rack will fit - if not it might need more grinding away :x

now ive also found theres no way the oil filter will fit unless its at 90 degrees - pointing forward, sitting in its origanal position the rack is in the way :( did yours fit ok guy/bj928 :?: if so my rack may be in a different position :? i presume yours fitted ok dipstick :!: the other option is to do away with the cooler part if it will fit :?

Luke,
if you look at

http://photobox.tiscali.co.uk/album/alb ... o=88794323

you can see the remote filter 'tube' hanging down off the filter bolt that is too long ......

this is the Cossie item, longer and straight compared to the V6 Amby item, which is curved..... i have used this with the V6 amby oil-water 'donut' cooler, this enables the filter to be located at more or less sump level, out of harms way .....

i still may junk the donut filter though, and pipe in a air-oil one, as it provides less resistance to oil flow, and so less pressure drop....?

cheers :-)

ps i haven't got PAS so there is more space at the front of mine....?

never thought about the amby one   i'll have a look see if thats any better  the other thought was to do away with the arm and have the filter mounted on the cooler if it will fit - it would be out of the way of the steering and the manifold too

oil cooler and filter

Postby dipstick » Sun Dec 31, 2006 8:02 pm

Luke,

I did think about that, the filter will screw on via a longer bolt, through the donut cooler...... but it still gets in the way, of BOB manifolds !! :(

good luck .... :)

when you say "front" do you mean front of the van or looking from the front ie back  :?
Guy88 wrote:Mines in the centre of the rack. Possibly even more towards the back :?
im now thinking my engine is further forward than yours even tho my gearbox crossmember needs to be modded to get the box further back :? strange :?

fitted the pas rack today it wouldnt foul the mount as its smaller than the non pas one, but i want to be able to fit either so its a good thing i tried the normal one first :D unfortunatley the fitting now fouls the plate  so i'll need to mill a section out of the plate - i'll do that when the engines next out :) and that was after i packed the engine up a ¼" if it wasnt for that it wouldnt go in at all :(

also i started ripping the loom out of the granada today - i now realise why i had to remove all the injector wiring before i took the engine out the part where the looms connect has been soldered together :x really i could do with another loom or a new connector block :?

Unlucky with the loom :(

By front i meant it points to the front looking from the r/h side

I have about 6mm between fan and the front cross member

I didnt do much today (raining) might fit the swirl pot tomorrow 8)

well today i went up for a couple of hours and managed to get the loom out of the granada :x i'll be able to work on it at home -kitchen table  during the week so that should save me some time 8)

ive also been thinking of a change in direction - twin turbos   and ive measured and i think i can get them fitted in the space i have so as of now that is my aim, unfortunatly it might add a bit of time to the overall job but it should be worth it in the end, my plans have changed from when i set out doing this van i was going to have it as a daily driver, but im happy with my mk4 so im going to keep it once this vans done mabe upgrade to a mk6*, so the cossy will just be a summer toy 8) so i dont need reliabilty, economy etc. and ive not really dealt with turbos much, apart from my rover so it will be a good interesting experiance, which is what its all about really

* do not turn this thread into a mk5 vs mk6 debate please!
