engine mounts (24v mk5)

Postby OxtonyxO » Sat Jan 13, 2007 2:12 pm

dont know if this is in the right place but
as most of you know i need to make some engine mounts to replace the temp ones i did on my 24v
my van isa mk5 with the horizontal chassis mounts

as in the pic below

(sorry about the drawing)
Image

so what i need to do is make a right angle bracket with a brace

my problem is will this be strong enough?

what thickness steel will i need to use?

or has anyone got a better idea ?

ps i dont want to weld the chassis mount

you got any parker steels in your area????? :?
You only need two tools in life: WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the duct tape.

Tony,

If there are any Metal Supermarkets near you, give them a try....

You only pay for what you need, and they can cut to exact specified lengths....

Cheers :)

so what are you saying? in the pic the engine needs to be lower :?:

i think i'd be tempted to do away with tha bracket and make a bolt on part that fits the existing mount holes and utilised the ally arm and rubber :!:

it seems to sit OK the way it is - looks to me like all you need to do is fabricate some steel on to the chassis

then its even easier make a sort of shelf for it to sit on picking up from the holes in the chassis looking at the pic 100x5 flat bar should do the trick :D 3 pieces also it can be unbolted :D
