Agree with 2 and 3. I can't complain about my mpg, it's better than any car I've ever had!

Re parking spaces, I always try to find 2 together and then make sure I park slap bang in the middle of them. That really annoys people who are behind you trying to find a place
Even if you don't need it, grab it.

You should worry! Try parking a 15ft bodied luton, now that needs two spaces!

I totally agree with all said :!: with the addition of

1 hate all the noise (must get around to sound deadening)

2 The roll as you go round the bends and everything in the racking falls to the floor :!:

3 arse holes that race you off the lights because they don't want to be behind a van and then slowing right down to snails pace  (the old blokes do this all the time :!: )

4 Builders that decide to setup the cement mixer next to your van. Leave to go home at the end of the day to discover your whole van is covered with cement dust  Put the wipers on to clear the dust from the screen and the feckin cement has welded itself to the screen  Builders apology consisted of "its only a f**kin van  "

In a word, yes. And the one (in a luton) where you come out of a shop, look behind the van (nothing), unlock the door, get in, put your seatbelt on, turn the engine over, check the mirrors, chuck her into reverse and BANG! Somebody's parked so close you can't see the car in the mirrors, either of em!

kids in silly cars with plastic bits bolted to em, without fail they try to drive past their abbility when i am trying to get somewhere at a reasonable pace. coming home fromn huntingdon today i followed a kid in an old audi 80 2.0 quatro, fannied about 55 odd on a single carriage A road, come to a dead stop at a roundabout so i carried on round his outside, this upset him a bit, so in a howl of revs he was off up the dual carriage way, get up towards next round about and he stops dead again when the road is clear, round the ouside again this time hes real pissed so he boots it all the while looking at me in his mirror, only trouble was he didnt notice the wagon that had just pulled out in front of him, how he missed it i will never know, i am still grinning as i type this, so the moral is dont pick on a van, you will always end up worse off one way or another
but as all other post for van related driving bug bears

in the 400 odd miles i have covered so far i have noticed as said in this thred that people will not be over taken by a van they haver to get passed you or speed up

people that own cars that cost loads of money think the space in front of you, you are saving for them so they just cut in

dam i need some bull bars

Kind of a follow on to what High Cube was saying, you build momentum and then the fool in the car in front either slows or just doesn't speed up...always wearing hats btw...flat hats or trilbys I mean not silly boy racers with a ball cap on.
I had a run in with a BMW last night, I overtook it on the outside bend doing a respectable 60, the BMW driver didn't like it one bit (I was simply driving not racing) next thing I know I have a race going on...well all I did was keep my foot down AND kept it under 70 (A road but dual carriage way), the BMW lost their bottle and backed off as the road twists and turns a little but being as I know the road rather well I know were to lift and not;) What was even scarier was that the BMW driver was a woman!!

Today I was driving on a perfectly straight road again doing 60 and a silver (always seem to be silver) BMW comes flying down the slip road, no indicators, no looking and pulls right into my lane, fortunately I had a clear outside lane so I had to pull over out of HER way, a little further up the road I pulled in for diesel and who should follow me in...she kept out of my way at the pumps but then finally decided to get fuel right next to me...politely but very loud and annoyed sounding I told her to "pay attention more on slip roads". No reply or filthy looks just a sheepish look and silence.
So maybe it is just me and BMW's sure seems that way this weekend.
What always makes me smile inside is the way people get in front of you at the earliest chance and then get all paranoid when you are behind them at lights or similar, or if you draw up behind some one the brakes come on for no reason, generally on roads with a 60 mph limit and they are doing 35 :?

driving a van

Postby MRspivvy » Sun Mar 12, 2006 6:55 am

I agree with all the points that have been raised about other drivers behaviour because you are in a van, but I see it every single day. I drive HGVs for a living and NOBODY wants to get stuck behind one of them!

My transit's the most economical vehicle I have ever owned, but the worst thing for me is the fact it really doesnt like hills, plus you cant use a lot of town centre car parks due to the height. I get around this by not going there. :D
