transponder probs/lost key

Postby p160 » Thu Apr 13, 2006 9:32 pm

buying a mk4 190 diesel from work.problem is the keys have been lost.its the red key transponder type on a p reg.i have keys from another van which are non transponder which fit the doors ign.lock etc will turn ign lock all the way round but imob stops electrical supply.has red led in roof lining by mirror that flashes.have hot wired it to drive onto low loader,so can get to run ok.is there anyway of bypassing the immobilser & fitting a mk3 lockset? or maybe getting a new transponder key coded to fit bearing in mind i have no 'red' key.

you can bypass the pats if you had one of the old key's :x
You only need two tools in life: WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the duct tape.

no you need the key that was original as the pats recognises only this key even if the key was broken you can still use it to bypass the pats i done it on my van till i got chance to fit the new barrels and get the new key coded

You could still just bypass the PATS system permanently and use a non-coded key. I'd recommend fitted some other imobiliser though.

you can hot wire the pats system in about 2-3 mins if you know how...(I am not posting on here though how to do it..)but to do a good job will take about 1 hour at most for a decent sparky to do..while hes doing it why not get a new immobiliser fitted at the same time...

That's what I thought but I couldn't find it when I looked before I posted.
The pats box is under the lift out section of the dash. You'll find the Haynes manual is a bit short of info on PATS which is reasonable I suppose.
It's a pretty straight forward job as I recall. Your best bet probably is to PM Nighthawk! :D
