Mk3 Propshaft to gearbox question.

Postby vana mana » Mon Oct 11, 2010 10:05 am

Can any one tell me ?

Is there only 1 type of thread in the gearbox plate that connects via bolts to the propshaft..

or another way of putting it.....

is there only 1 type of threaded bolt that connect the propshaft to gearbox ???

or is there different types...

Its a MT 75 gearbox...

How many threads are the bolts going in before they go tight? When you take them out are there any shiny bits on the threads?

Thank you for pointing out that i have a thread going very similar...but i have not had much response from that thread...so started a new thread aboult bolt thread sizes...

im not sure if its because the gearbox bolt threads are rusty ?..i have cleaned then internaly a little using a dremmel with a fine brush and removed the thread seal / blue stuff from one bolt and that perticular bolt has gone in further.....

But i do not want to tighten up and sheer off :(
The bolts im using came off a petrol engined vehicle with a MT 75 gearbox H / Reg..im not using this gearbox though..im using one that i think is better condition from a previous petrol engine gearbox combination that came with no bolts :(

The threads on the bolts i am using are only going in upto the blue stuff...im not sure what im looking for but yes the threads seem to be a bit shiny...

sorry ..about 4 threads..up to blue stuff ..the threads on bolts look shiny..but cant really notice much diffrence...

just took the bolts..1 without blue stuff and 1 with blue stuff and tried em in original box they came out off..the 1 with blue stuff got tight around the blue stuff entering the gearbox end the 1 without went straight through...i tried em both in the threaded gearbox end where 2 out of the six bolt holes wernt used /rusty similar results to the gearbox im trying to use em on...
i think..when i cleaned threads with dremmel..i could only get three quaters way along andreckon the rust at the other quater is stiffening things up??
