Service Required and Low Revs / Limp Mode

Postby BazzaUK » Sat Jan 11, 2025 5:48 am

Hi all, I was wondering if you can help me with the following issue or point me in the right direction.

I have a 2016 MK8 Ford Transit Custom 2.0 Diesel Adblue Trend. It’s been sat for some months unused due to health issues and as a consequence, the battery was dead. I have put a brand new battery on it and it starts and runs fine (though I do smell something very faintly in the cab like exhaust fumes, but then my window was open, so I didn’t read too much into that). It had been sat running for around 20 mins when I suddenly got a message on the dash saying “Service Required” and a yellow “i” icon. When I then tried to rev the engine, I noticed it wouldn’t go above 2,000 revs. If I turn off the ignition and wait a while, and restart it, the message is no longer there (well it may be, but it doesn’t show up) and if I leave it a while, it reappears.

Any idea what I should be looking at? Could it be due to the vehicle sitting stationary for so long. It’s only done about 1,000 miles since its last MOT almost a year ago. Any thoughts on things I could try, in order to diagnose the issue or simple things I could eliminate before having to have it towed/trailered into Ford.

Many thanks in advance.

Probably worth starting with resetting the service due if even possible on them. On my mk7 you can without anything fancy just via the pedals. Not sure if that alone would keep your rev at a limit though ?

Beyond that, when was the fuel / filter last replaced?

Maybe water in filter ?

Have you got a scan tool or forscan diagnostics ?

Just giving you a reply as nobody yet has. Not to clued up on mk8s myself.

Hopefully someone with more knowledge will be soon but worth resetting and poss a new filter if been stood a long time. Cheers
