Postby hodgy » Sat Apr 04, 2026 8:13 pm

Hi im after some advice on possible issues with my recovery truck.it starts then cuts out.it started playing up 6 months ago when one day i was out in it and turned it off and 20 minutes later wouldnt start, eventually got it it started after about three quarters of an hour after that it was ok for 4.months then it started playing up again, sometimes it would start up straight away then other times take a lot of turning over then stopping then the same trying for about half hour.now all it does is start then cut out straight away.no diagnosis done on it just after some possible issues as havig trouble getting someone with forscan or other equipment that can check it over.any help would be appreciated.thanks

Get Forscan and do it yourself, it's free to download and the cable is cheap. Is the glow plug light flashing..?? The cost of getting it plugged in just once is several times the cost of the cable.

Could be a multitude of things...We'd be guessing and guessing is pointless.

Is the fuel filter still full after sitting for several hours or overnight..??

Go here and you'll get all the Forscan info you need.

https://forscan.org/download.html

Get the "V-Linker" cable and you'll be golden.

Download Forscan to a lappy, connect cable to the OBD-II port...although the Mk6 is "not" OBD-II compliant... which is why most OBD-II readers won't work on the Mk6.

You would need to download the Forscan program onto the laptop from the internet, but the lappy doesn't need to be connected to the 'net when doing the readings in the van :)
