Theres no light or such on the dash..............

And what Mark is mine?

no mate your van hasnt got one! if you are haveing starting problems make shure your battery is perfect you need as much cranking power as you can get! then she should start no problem! :)

Starts on first turn key, but mis fires quite a bit and chugs, only for 10-20 econds mind...........wether it be winter or summer

That's quite normal for a diesel. I for one would say that you've got a Mk5, others may argue that this is incorrect, but 90% of people would know what you are talking about!

if you getting a misfire when starting it could be dirty injectors.or leaking injectors.

You'll only have a cold start device if it was specc'd when first ordered.

It's a flame start device, this means diesel is sprayed onto a red hot coil and acts like a blow torch down the inlet manifold. Very visable once the bonnet is open.

If the idle is a little unstable when first running, i'd make sure that the fuel supply is ok, small air bubbles or fuel drain back will take a few seconds to clear once the pump starts to supply diesel.
