Mk2 4sp to overdrive probs..How can i get it sorted?

Postby Nel5on » Thu Apr 07, 2005 7:08 pm

Ive got a mk2 motorhome and its a bit slow...wanted to cruize at about 65-70mph but its likes 60 and i have to find a slow truck to sit behide rather than passing them.
Problem is my 4spd is a spline driveshaft input into the gearbox and the overdrive box i just got is a flange(only discovered this once i got home)....whats the best way to get around this problem? Do i have to cut and weld the driveshafts(can they be rigid?)...I just dont know with transits...i know Anglias,escorts,cortinas...Just wanted a cheap way to go faster and get better MPG.
Any thoughts would be great.

Nelson, yep, it's gotta be cut and have a slider put in and a flange on the end. If this is any help, over the Christmas holiday I changed to overdrive in my MK2, so had to have a prop done. I got it done by Chassis Developments at Leighton Buzzard. They got a new slider and new flange, and done the job for £168 and some odd pence. They had it ready the day after it went in to them.
The man to speak to is Ron Smith, he's the propshaft man, on 01525 374151.

That's who built our Big 'Un, 19 years ago, so they must be good!!! The budget option on this conversion is to split the prop at the fron UJ, but it depends on the legth of the finished prop when fitted. We have used Propshaft Services in I think Hayes, but I don't think that's very near you.
