thanks for the kind words  i was as crap as int once :!: only at welding tho  practice makes perfect :D

hardly any progress this weekend - weathers fault :x

the engine in the cossy is free and ready to lift out ..................... and thats it

stu has the mounts and is hopefully gonna give em a coat of paint tomorrow and if its not still snowing we might have the engine out tomorrow night :?

we have had an idea to save time to get it done for the drag meet - as the starter meshing woth the fly wheel is gonna be a problem :!: just ignore it untill after the meet  van would need a bump start everywhere but small price to pay if it meens having it done in time

Are you mating the Mk6 gearbox to the Cossie engine? If so then I dont see why you can use a Sierra 1.8 cvh starter, thats what they use with Zetec conversions, flywheel too :!:

yeah the MK6 box is the DOHC MT75 the starter is on the o/s the cossy on has it on the n/s from a quick check today the cossy one will fit the mounts but i think the flywheel is smaller - certanly on the DOHC it's too far meshed into it :(

the CVH flywheel i assume will fit the zetec no probs as they are the same block but i dont think it will fit the cossy/pinto crank :? certanly worth a try especially if the starter itself will mate with the cossy flywheel :D

when i get the cossy out i can use the plate that goes between the engine and bellhousing form both engines lay one on top of the other see what the difference is - if any :D

The end plate on the starter may need turning round then, so its like the Pinto auto one (O/S) Pinto/cossie can have it either side so as long as you can get the holes in the box to line up you may be able to use the starter you have.
The Sierra 1.8 flywheel is the lightest one and can easily be redrilled to fit the pinto/cossie crankshaft :D

overall good progress today but slightly dissapointined not to get the engine bolted in :)

went up after work with the intention of getting the engine out of the sierra :D we did that and then thought why not see if it will fit :)

had a quick measure up and i "think" the starter will be fine turned round - standard cosworth flywheel with a 7mm packer to line the clutch release bearing up :D

problem we had was getting the engine to bolt up we were 1" away :x had a few thoughts it could be different splines on the spigot shaft - but they were the same :D then we thought the flywheel might be too big for the bellhousing  measured up and the sierra one is smaller but i think it's not that thats stopping it go in, the slings were tight on the windscreen bottom panel (whatever you call it) so i hope it was just the angle :|

so with failing light and a 3yr old needing to go to bed we gave up  sorry no pics but i'll have some over the next few days when the engines sitting in 8)

fairly easy, remove the wipers and the plastic scuttle cover, then theres a few 10mm bolts and its off, plus an 8mm if i remember right supporting the wiper motor :D

might have that off then get the truck up really high with a long sling see if we can swing it in easier :D

also forgot to say the engine fitted like it was meant to be there  loads of clearance exhausts a little tight but should be ok :D

if the flywheel isnt bigger than the box i can't see this not being at north weald

BEST DAY YET SO FAR

start from the beginning ......... couldn't get the engine in with the box in situ :x it's very tight and we still have the 4x4 sump fitted making it even more awkward, i wasnt even sure it would mate up so decided to take out the box :D

out with the box (clutch cyl is a neat idea well done ford :P ) then mated them together on the floor - we could then see why it wouldn't fit - the fly wheel is bigger than the bellhousing and catches on some rasied lugs :(

pondered over it for a while and decided to grind them back only a little was needed - i appreciate it will weaken the bellhousing but after i'd done it i was a bit happier as it really was only a little and i dont think any substantial strength has been lost :D

with that done it was back together - couldn't try the starter as the 4x4 sump is still on but i'll worry about that later  but the engine turned fine this time

fitted the engine back in was a tight squeeze due to the angle but once sitting in it looked like it's meant to be there  8)

pics in 2 mins
