I dont see why £300 was too much for it, there's a lot worse vehicles for sale at more money than that :!:

You'll get it right

All of it and it will still be only worth £600 max on resale.

You reckon a grand would cover:

Front Discs
Front pads
Front brake lines
Oil filter
Air filter
Fuel filter
Oil
battery
Rear cross member
rear arches
side panel
front arches
roll bar at front
play in the steering
battery tray
rear right wheel bearings
spare wheel
front wing
back doors
all other surface rust on the chassis and panels
coating with protective sh*t to stop further rust

Whats the end resale got to do with it? If you were buying a van to do it up and sell it you would hardly go and buy an L reg anyway.

Whats my van worth? £500 on a good day? I've spent £600 on it this year

your biggest stinger there is gonna be the welding and labour charges
the rest of it isnt really that much it just looks a lot when you list it like that
dont you know anyone that could do majority of it for you to cut down on the costs :?:

Front Discs = £35
Front pads see above
Front brake lines =£20
Oil filter = £8
Air filter = £6
Fuel filter =£8
Oil = £20
battery =£40
Rear cross member = Has to be fabricated so cost could be huge
rear arches £31.20 (for both) + VAT
side panel £10.80 + VAT
front arches £17.50 each + VAT
roll cage ??? what part as there isn't a roll cage in a Transit or do you mean the front rollbar? If so no idea if you don't have one then you can't fit one without changing the wishbones (I think it is that part either way you need the fixing points), my first MK3 didn't have one (rollbar) but the next one did and there was only 18 months between the two.
play in the steering =Exchange rack approx £100
battery tray = £17.90 inc bracket = VAT
rear right wheel bearings = £20ish
spare wheel =£5 - £20 (breakers)
front wing =£26.55 + VAT
back doors = how much do you want to spend as lots on ebay

All the +VAT Prices are from Beevers (sponsors of the Members progress reports) and there will be delivery on top as well the rest of the parts you can get from any decent motor factors some of the prices are 'ish in that give or take a couple of pounds either way. The brake discs and pads can be bought on ebay complete from several sellers so that is an average price for 14" wheel.
You are well under a grand parts wise BUT you now have to add in the cost for someone to do it for you, then there is painting on top, average quick blow over is £300 up to silly figures.

The above is just shy of £400 without any VAT not including the rear crosspiece, not including delivery and no labour costs nor the paint afterwards. That is, if the list is a definitive list, remember you still have to add in the sills and the shocker tops.

You could of course bite the bullet and take anything good off the van...maybe around £100 - £200 tops on ebay (if you can find the buyers)and scrap the van for approx £65-100 (depending on what junk you could put in the back ;) ) and then you will be more or less back to square one.

Short cutting to the next question of 'If I do the work what's it worth?' ;)

You yourself have spent a pile on your van granted but what do you think it is worth ...as a van NOT the use you have for it for your biz. I doubt you did the £600 in one hit and had you had to do it that way I bet you would have been looking for another van instead.
How much of that work is work YOU did, probably 98% of it so what is the true cost of what you have put into your van this year? Probably a very scary answer.

£300 for new arches/wings and a partial respray.
£140 new 'high torque cam'
£34 'payen' head set including new stretch bolts.
£68 service kits x2
£14 ball joint
£37 new tyre

Total £593

Thats what I have payed out, none of it includes my own labour.

Well that does surprise me however the labour and respray should give the OP food for thought.
The other bits on your list are partially 'cos you wanted to (the head and bits for it) and the Ball joint is wear and tear same as the tyre.
Myself I never include Tyres, exhausts and brakes as to me those are service items and you will be buying those for ever more regardless of the vehicle.

mark its all well and good saying scrap it and buy another  a mate of me dads bought a tidy looking transit for just over 2k (ok about 3 years back now) but 2nd MOT failed on welding :(
i dunno how much but i know he paid out for it - the point is you could sell this van put more to and still end up shelling out for welding in a year :(

unless you can do all the work yourself running a transit will cost money - yes the van would be a very bad idea as a profit making venture but look at what a grand buys you - and i dont mean the photos on ebay actually go look at them - imo this van aint that bad take it to a 'decent' mot tester and most of those point wont be failures anymore - get the valance and others done - plenty of underseal/waxoil and over the years it will turn into the best purchase you ever made
