From Firevan to Servicevan...

Hi all,

Last month I have introduced myself on the newbies topic. I have purchased a '66 firevan which is ready for it's 4th life (from firevan to camper to bandvan to servicevan).
Since then I have been considering which engine to take to change the firevan into a good rally service van. It must be able to pull a trailer (with an old Ford on it of course..) so some hoursepower is required.
The V4 has died, so no problems with taking that out.
First I thought about a Zetec engine, but I wasn't sure about that. A Pinto was an option too, but a bit expensive. Then I found a V6 from a Ford Granada. It was running and still in the car. Nice oldskool engine on a carburator.
So, decision has been made: it will be a V6. I want to keep the flatnose, so that will make the job a bit more difficult.

Update after a day of hard work

And a little gap to make room for two extra cilinders. I love my plasma cutter....


Made a start already to close the gap. it's a tight fit with the accelerator:

Emmm... we thought that we could squeze the heater in, but in practice it didn't
We are thinking about placing it further to the right or placing a heater from a Mini.

Any other suggestions are welcome. Maybe from madmark?

i'm sure sourcing another heater wont be a problem

i wouldnt bother with a mini one they have a valve on the inlet to cool it down - bit of a poor design i can't think of a suitable one off hand tho

What are you on about Luke? They don't there is the valve on the cylinder head to control the temp, its nothing to do with the heater itself!

yeah thats it its for the heater when you shut it off the heater stays warm untill all the heats gone what i mean is without that valve you wouldnt be able to cool it down would you

yeah but its not part of the heater

it does... but inline valves are easy to get hold of (they are even on the later spi/mpi minis)
