1972 MK1 chassis No#??where??

I just went out to look for my vin I found the compliance plates there is a vin on that but do you think i can find it stamped in steel

Its got to be there some where

Im going to contact ford and ask them

Sundowner, the Mk2 chassis number is under the bonnet, on tne driver's side corner where the slam panel meets the drivers wing.

The Mk1 chassis number is on the outside of the passenger side of the chassis, have a crawl around under the van and take a good look. I only saw maine a few weeks ago (72) so I know it's there!

and yeh, we are in the process of aquiring a stamping kit.... but as a last resort. im about to go nuts with degreaser and paint stripper tommor....so frustrating...

Had a look for my number............ not to be seen (74). Aussie transits were made here so are probably different to Europe. Here is a funny thing is that my rego papers say a chassis number but the compliance plate doesn't!

Ok i just went on a mad search and guess what

I found it
It may be in the same place on mk1's so get a wire brush and a scraper and go have a look

Its where the white paint is

found it!! right there sundowner, id already looked but this time a just went ape sh*t with a heap of acetone, degreaser and a mixture of other sh*t, and now can just faintly read it.....its so shallow, why they didnt print it deeper i dunno...

I thought fender was bumper. At least it is if you speak American. The wing is the panel that covers the wheel. At the front it's the whole corner between the door and bonnet.

Not trying to have an argument but I'm pretty sure that America/Canada/Australia? refers to the wing as the fender.

Take your word for it mate, no big deal. I was getting it from 'fender bender', thinking it meant bumper. Sound like logic?

Actually in OZ we call them guards. Front left guard etc.

Some mk 1s had a 'secret' tag at the top of the bulkead. If you look from the engine bay up under the scuttle panel it's like a bit of mini printer (Dymo) tape but made of tin rather than plastic. It should be stuck to the bulkhead just about under where the left hand wiper blade sits.

It will just have the last 7 digits of the Vin number, two letters followed by 5 numbers.


The Mk 2s had them on two alternative places, either on the offside inner wing, or next to the offside headlamp. Just visible looking between the headlamp and the plastic cowl at about the 3 oclock position of the headlamp.
