Brakes

Postby Aragorn » Fri Dec 16, 2005 7:19 pm

Another stupid question from me  but im trying to gather as much info as possible

ive noticed that larger (120/150) mk5 transits have 270x24mm brake disks but the smaller ones (80/100) only have 256x24mm disks

how possible is it to fit the 270x24mm disks to a 80swb? i realise they will only fit with 15" wheels but apart from that is it just a case of getting the disks and calipers from a larger van and bolting them on? or is the upright different?

cheers

The bigger ones wont fit because they are 6 stud.

But the big discs from the 6 stud wheels still only use a 5 bolt fixing, so why not?

Just been checking out some info, the two discs are the same, apart from the size, i.e offset and centre bore size.

The only thing you may need to watch, is the caliper or carrier may not fit, and you might need the caliper to match the bigger disc.

i am interested to find out if this can be done!
ie - what is the biggest disk that can be to a mk3/4/5 SWB 5 stud :?:
and what caliper to use :?:

i could do with this info to help with the choice of rear disk! i will eventually fit mk4 front to my mk1!!

also -ive moved this over to mk3!

accrding to brakeworlds online catalog:

91-00 transits all use the same caliper

so its the carrier that must differ?

270mm models have a larger pad too...
