Wanted Webber pinto 34ICH carb for 1987 transit120

Hi everyone asking for help , looking for a carb Webber pinto 34ICH for our 87 Ford transit 120 autosleeper ! Can anyone help please ? Been quoted over£200 any recons about ? Thanks

I had a pinto for a long time, tried various carbs, dellorto, weber etc, came back to the VV. Properly set up these are as good as any third party and you get the hot air connection from the air filter to avoid carb icing.
Mine came from a pile in a breakers, guess I was lucky.

I think I may have one still, will have a looksee tomorrow. Muttley may have it though , I’m back on a vv now though and much better.

What were the signs that the Weber 34 ICH performed worse – or less well – compared to the original VV?

I was recommended by a car mechanic in Liverpool to replace my VV with a Weber 34 ICH. So I bought a new Weber a year ago, but have not replaced the old VV yet.

I have a Weber 32/36 DGV sitting on a Pinto in another Transit 87 camper. The van seems to run fine. I like the manual choke.

I had a Weber conversion on my mk2 2.0 litre pinto, it wouldn’t idle properly and fuel was just sucked up, mpg was rubbish. We fitted a vv and the engine ran sweetly with no issues, the Weber was forever getting something stuck in the needle valve and I broke down every 10 minutes, or so it seemed, muttley would clear the jet and 10 minutes down the road it would get blocked again. We had an extra in line fuel filter too! So, yes, my van ran better with a vv. does that clarify things for you?

I'm wondering if fuel pressue might have been an issue? I read somewhere that Webers are sensitive to high pressure. Hence, I mounted a fuel pressure regulator with my Weber 32/36 DGV and also bought one to be mounted with the Weber 34 ICH (if I ever get around to it).

Sorry Kj, it may still be with muttley, no doubt RW will ask him if he knows where it is if you’re running a standard fuel pump then the pressure won’t be too high for any of them, if it’s electric you may get issues

Indeed, I have the original, mechnical fuel pump on both vehicles. The pressure reads 3.8 psi at 3000 rpm and increasing to 4.0 psi during quick drops in rpm. The Weber carbs ask for max. 3.5 psi and preferably 2.5 psi. Maybe not a big problem, but I have installed regulators on both anyhow, giving the prescribed, constant 2.5 psi.

Someone recommended adding gaskets under the fuel pump instead of installing a regulator. I tested the effects of thicker gaskets:

1. Standard gasket 0.8 mm thick: Pressure 3.8–4.0 psi
2. Standard gasket 0.8 mm + one additional 0.7 mm gasket, 1.5 mm total: Pressure 3.7–3.9 psi
3. Standard gasket 0.8 mm + two additional 0.7 mm gaskets, 2.2 mm total: Pressure 3.6–3.8 psi
4. Standard gasket 0.8 mm + three additional 0.7 mm gaskets, 2.9 mm total: Pressure 3.5–3.7 psi

The additional gaskets didn't bring the pressure down to the desirable 2.5 psi. On the other hand, maybe 3.5–3.7 psi is good enough.

I have finally installed the Weber 34 ICH on the second vehicle. It runs like a charm. No more excessive fuel consumption. No more dieseling after ignition turn-off.
