Clutch or clutch cable?

Postby and1ne13 » Thu Dec 17, 2009 11:59 am

I recently noticed that my gear stick was harder getting into gear than normal, the clutch pedal was going down fine.

As the week went on it got worse and worse, i was half way through my day at work when boom, the clutch pedal hit the floor, i have had to get it towed to a garage..

I wanna know what the problem is because i dont want screwed by someone telling me its the whole clutch when it might just be the cable. Any help would be great, thanks Jamie.

Chances are clutch cable happened to me before (although I drove it home like it) check if the pedal just flaps around and you can check the cable as well under the bonnet see how much slack it has but that would be my guess

It is also a very easy job I done it myself took about 10 mins if that

95% it's the cable. Reach underneath and waggle the release lever. If it's loose and the cable will pull out backwards it's the cable. They do snap, had two fail on me in 10 years. Both took a day or so to break.

Guess you've not learnt to drive without a clutch......

I don't blame ya using it without a clutchpedal isn't easy unless you are good at it I drove mine from basildon to southend with traffic lights.

hi
changed more clutch arms than cables, might be prudent to scramble underneath and check that the fork aint bent or broken
it was like that before i touched it !!

I agree, the forks are prone to bending hence reducing the travel
