DMF conversion. Urgent advice please.

Mine broke down while driving on Friday - couldn't put it into gear after stalling. My mechanic says the clutch is Ok but DMF needs replacing (bearing balls fell out). He recommends conversion to SMF and I'm planning to buy (collect) a kit off eBay today for £129.
KIT CONTAINS THE FOLLOWING:SINGLE MASS FLYWHEEL, CLUTCH PRESSURE PLATE, CLUTCH DRIVEN PLATE, CLUTCH RELEASE BEARING, CLUTCH RELEASE FORK, AND FLYWHEEL RETAINING BOLTS.

I'm happy to go ahead with the conversion but are there any other things we should check? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I would fit a new spigot bearing while your on (bit of a bugger to do) Most of those that complain of vibration after converting to single mass flywheel have usually forgotten or not bothered to change this

The conversion was done yesterday using the Valeo kit from Eurocarparts (£220). Van feels fine but gear changing is just slightly less smooth.
Mysteriously, we found ball bearing debris in the bell housing and can only assume that it came from a previous starter motor ..?
I'd started driving the van after returning from a 4 month trip 3 weeks ago and noticed a squeal coming from the fan belt. The squeal's still there after the conversion and I'm wondering if it's related to the advice on the forum to change the crankshaft pulley. Squirting soapy water on any part of the belt or pulleys get rid of the squeal but only for a few minutes.
For the record, my mechanic rates the Valeo kit as good quality.

Never had a crank pulley fail on a mk6, there metal not rubber like the mk7, try a new belt first, may be all it needs, while its off check the smoothness of the idler pulley and tensioner pulley (the two little black ones that don't have groves in them for the belt) when you spin them, if either feel rough, or rumble, or wobble from side to side if you wiggle them, change those too. Very common failing on the Mk6.

but all in all what is your experience with the conversion

ive just done mine no rattles,no pieces of steel grinding together nice and smooth and noticing more miles to the gallon

Changing the belt got rid of the squeal. All in all, i'm happy with the conversion. The van drives well and no built in DMF problem to worry about. I'd put reliability above a little smoothness every time.

I just done a solid conversion on mine, also changed the spigot bearing. All seems ok at the moment. I only paid £400 for the van. Picture below.
