Hello from America!

Postby Mister Bumbles » Tue Aug 30, 2011 11:25 pm

Well hi! How is everyone?

I've decided to check out your community here, since I'm going to be picking up a new 2011 / 2012 Transit Connect in the next month.
Kind of wanted to see what the community was like here (or THERE, as it may be).

I am a VW kind of person currently. Been in a VW Club ever since I bought my limited edition, 2002 Beetle.
My Beetle has a 1.8l turbocharged motor, with 150hp. It's been a lot of fun to drive and own. The club that I am in has thousands of members all across the U.S., so it was a lot of fun to be part of.

BUT, I'm going to be selling "Sting" and picking up a black Transit Connect. Time to do something new, driving something with more functional, useable space, if that makes sense.

Here in the U.S. our Transit's are pretty LOW on options. It only comes in a 2.0l, 130hp motor, in an automatic gearbox. So, at some point I'll be researching putting in a better motor, something Cosworth powered or from a Focus RS. They also only come with cloth seats, and no real options at all. I've been looking around the forums here and seeing what other folks are doing to their Transit Connects, and I am really liking what I see!

As soon as I pick up my TC, I'm getting new wheels put on, and having some slight paint modifications done.
A little bit of Photoshop work shows the kind of idea I am hoping for...
This is how I hope to have it looking rather shortly....
Image

Then I need to research lowering it a bit. I've seen a number of forums talking about flipping the axle, etc. I just need to make sure that here in the U.S. it's the *same* method. Not sure how much the vehicle might have changed when it was imported.

For instance, one of the things I want to change, is that here in the U.S., Ford put the high-mount brake light on TOP of the van, and does not use the brake light mount in the rear door.
Image

I don't suppose anyone has one of these door-mounted lights for sale do they? We have the place to mount it, but right now it just has a blank plate in it.
I want to pull off the giant roof-mounted light and put a small one in the door instead, but I can't find the part # for the light itself.
Any help on that would be fantastic!

I'm sure I'll have a ton of other questions, but it's going to be fun being part of the community I hope
ooOOOooo Shiny, what's that?!?!!!

Hi Mr B,
remember, that the reasont the high level brake light is on the roof, is because American Legislation demands it, make sure you aren't going to get in a whole heap of trouble by removing it. :(

Nice part is, over here, they won't care. The only things they make a fuss over, is window tint that is too dark (that particular law is different in EVERY state), and in different states some require you to have a license plate on the front and rear of the vehicle, some only want the rear. Other than that, as long as your standard tail lights, break lights work, they don't care about the 3rd light.

But I still WANT one, just not the gigantic one perched on the roof. The one you guys have built into the back door is so smooth, neat, and tidy.
You see the one on THESE and it's like ...

The worst part is, there doesn't seem to be a single place in the U.S. that can get the spoilers for the Transits. And I *really* want one of the Sport spoilers >_<
Want. WANT. W A N T!

So the only two parts I need to find from over THERE (stares longingly at you guys)... is the little brake light, and a spoiler.
Otherwise, I'm going to have to fabricate something... that could be .... messy. *lol*

Hi Bumbles, not much the collective membership don't know here so you've definitely joined the right TRANSIT forum. 8)

You will probably now get 'begging letters' for USA parts and custom goodies though!

Hm... Also, as a side note, I'd love some feedback on my design. I'm having trouble deciding on what color of stripe to use. The Red is nice, but it really takes away from the yellow. And since I LOVE the yellow.. I'm thinking that I should perhaps use a different color.

Perhaps more like this, with a darker grey with a metallic sparkles in it?

Image

(also , here's a link to a similar version, but I added a small oval grey stripe down near the bottom as well)

Just going over ideas before I spend the money to have it done once I get the TC :D
I want it to be *perfect* so I don't want to have to have it done more than once ;)
