Speed limit on campervan

Postby john kyte » Sun Dec 15, 2013 4:01 pm

The speed limit on camper up to 3.05 tons on an A road ,is 60 MPH

What I didnt know is that if you are carrying items to exhibition,,ie,, stationary engine---oil painting etc,,,the limit is 50MPH

It's bonkers isn't it? You can drive a camper at 70 on a derestricted dual carriageway at 70, an unladen Transit Connect only 60. Also larger HGV's on Motorways should only be doing 60 unless I've read it wrong. Seen very few of them adhering to that limit.

true... I just read it the wrong way.
that you can gain 10mph when you turn a commercial vehicle into a campervan .... except if you are using it as a commercial.

rather than you lose 10mph.

how though the gatso or SPECS (as its unlikely you'find a real policeman) will know what you have inside is a mystery

Unless the HGV is forgein it can't do over 56mph and have not been able to since early 1990's all HGV's are restricted to 56mph

Interesting, the number of artics I see on the M5 quite happily keeping up with the other traffic, they're certainly not doing 56mph.

I dont see 40 footers[artics] doing more than 56 on motorway,,or anywhere else. Maybe a touch more if downhill

Dont forget that your speedo is most likely 5 mph fast-----so is the mileage meter,,,so if you think tou are getting 60 MPG,,you are only getting 55

Foreign artics are also governed to 50

Even more interestingly, the quoted 3.05 tons in un laden, so I reckon even mine can scrape under that and allow me to drive my bigger heavier less stable vehicle faster than my shorter lower more stable Transit 260 :? :? :?

Well I have been passed on the a14 by a lorry. It wasn't a 40ft arctic, but it was a 4 axle tipper. I was doing 70 and he came past me and disappeared out of sight very quickly!!

My van was empty and he must have made me move a foot to the left!!!
