new to me 2014 mk8 trend. what windscreen camera do?

[riauba]

hi, just bought 2014 mk8 rwd trend van. usual bells and whistles like parking sensors, reverse camera, led drl. windscreen also has camera fitted. drove it in the dark and it doesn't switch high beam automatically, so it's not that, can't see any lane assist buttons and there wasn't warnings changing lanes without indicator on motorway, so what is it for? emergency brake maybe? Vin report doesn't say anything, or at least I can't see. It has auto wipers, but mk7 transits didn't need camera for that. here is the specs sheet: Date of production 11/17/14

Forward camera can do a few things depending on what is fitted to your van:-
1/ Speed limit sign detection
2/ Auto dipping headlights (yours could be disabled in the menu)
3/ Forward alert - detects if you're approaching the rear of a vehicle too fast (not sure if it brakes, or just makes an alarm noise)
4/ Lane assist (again, can be disabled)

I have all of these on my Focus, and none of them work reliably

not sure if sign detection was available on 2014 transit, for auto high beam even my g05 bmw has button on stalk, but on transit i didn't notice.
