these are not the easiest shafts to change on the passenger side if ur really struggling take the 13mm bolt out of the rear stabiliser g/box mount which will allow the gearbox to swing forwards and should give you a bit more room to get pry bar or screwdriver in

Will take a look at this in a minute. I had to walk away for a little while!
I'm a bit nervous to undo any more bolts as I think the whole thing is just going end up as a basket case!

If you send me a photo of the passenger side with the wheel off I will edit pic to show you where to put the bar.

In this pic. While I was under there I noticed a couple of empty bolt holes in the gearbox casing In the dark bit bottom left. All this because I did my own oil change!

You can also see my temporary repair to the cv boot which actually worked until i tried pulling the shaft out.

I hope you are not using that silly screwdriver on the floor to take the shaft out!
You need a crow bar or pry bar with a flat bit on the end.



Try placing the crowbar in the direction and places as shown on the amended pic. On the right hand arrow stick the crowbar through the bottom arm to the shaft. There should be a cut out in it.

Where the right hand arrow is, there is no cut out. The arm is mounted there, and there is definitely no way through from underneath. Where the left hand arrow is, you could get a screwdriver in there, but there is no way of angling it back to get behind the inner joint, there is no room for movement in that direction, you can only point it straight up. It looks like the only place anything can get in is to the back of the driveshaft. i.e. toward the passenger seat. But it would be small and not give much leverage. I am now looking at seeing if i can afford to get a mobile mechanic in at some point to finish the job, depending what it costs. As I am stuck, probably a lot... Very frustrating. Haynes manuals are worthless in their lack of attention to detail!

I replaced a n/s drive-shaft recently,like you say access is tight,I drove a chisel up from behind knocked in with a hammer,make sure the chisel is a good tight fit & obviously wedge shaped,as you knock it up it will dislodge the c clip that locates the inner cv joint into the gearbox
