Fredtransit is the gal to speak to. She has done a couple very successfully. Plenty of how to's on the net. If you google poor mans paint job you will find some good sites.
I intend to do the same shortly, so make sure you get some progress pics up and keep us posted with any tips etc you come across on the way.

The biggest tips are preperation and patience. But with the paint is getting the thinning mix right, not to thin or too thick. Once you apply it with a gloss roller, (i found Wicks ones work well) you will get hundreds or micro bubbles, you need to go back over the paint with the roller but only apply the weight of the roller, no pressure at all just the weight of the roller itself and this will take out the bubbles and the paint should level itself.

Dunno about hand brushing i only used a roller. Check out this link for hand painting, trouble is with a van you dont have any flat panels hardly. why dont you get an old bonnet from scrappers and and and have some practice.

This is called rollering and tipping

Or this is the method i used and this vid gave me all the info i needed except i never used the hair dryer, i just went back over the paint with the roller like i said previous.
