EURO insurance and Ferry cost

How much would euro insurance be +- to take the van do u guys think?
any cheap places u have used or heard about.

Also cost of ferry. cheap.

Out of boredom I was seeing how much dover-calais was on P&O a few weeks back - suprisingly cheep, only just slightly more than a car at about £30-£40! (thats for a SWB med roof)

so far £84 return plus a wee bit for fuel charge perhaps sailing early morning mid week returning late at night mid week, in july Dover to Dunkirk

Check your insurrance policy, with all the recent questions about insurrance cover etc I have had my policy out and found that I am covered for European travel as long as I stay within the EU

Best way i've found to get across is Norfolk line they do Dover Dunkirk 2hrs crossing time and if memory serves every 2 hrs. Cheapest ferry company i've found to get a van across. hope this helps Andy

Now we are in the E.E.C. your insurance covers you 'minimum legal requirement' in every E.E.C. country, you have to pay extra (mine was £15.00) to upgrade your policy to normal (assuming normal its fully comp.)
Being a van you MAY find they will only cover you on a per trip basis so you have to tell them when you are going, how long for e.t.c. (they claim the rules are different for commercial vehicles)

DON'T FORGET SWITZERLAND & AUSTRIA ARE NOT E.E.C.

Dont even DREAM of going to Malta it was an extra £54.

Even when you get cover you still DO NOT get a green card, what the f**k is up with the insurance companies in this country ? you buy a policy abroad the premium is 10% (well was in the '80's) of the value of the vehicle & the cover note IS a/the green card.

I have the Euro flag with GB underneath on my number plates so how much more visible would you want

not visable enough, its got to be one of those oval things , bloody stupid really, i mean how is it relevent to any one else any way, reminds me of the time i was driving up from london to n wales and was stopped doing 60 miles an hour with a trailer on , apparantly i should have had a sticker with 60 on it, i mean can you believe it , well i do now, got an endorsement , fine the lot, , anyway you have to have one of those oval ones.

Nah you don't have to have a GB sticker if you have a "euro" style plate with the GB on it.

Not sure what the law is if you have the saltire and SCO on your plate though (like many of my plates)

becarful going over in a van, as if its for business they`ll charge you more.

when going abroad, we find going to a broker is a better bet, as they arn`t concerned wether its business or not. and if you get asked at the port, " the broker never asked"

a few folk get caught on the return journey, if they don`t pay the difference they don`t get let back on.

The sco ones are not legal, so I bought a set of plates with the GB on so I did not have to stick anything that would look silly to me motor.

Norfolkline was the ferry i used the last time and got me and the car return for £28 (in November 2006)

I forgot to mention the latest French silly. You now HAVE to have a hi-vis vest for every seat in the vehicle. The coffers must be running low, or perhaps all the Brits know about the speed trap on the A26 now.

So that's got to France now? It's been an Italian rule for ages, and we usually carry the hi vis vests anyway so wouldn'r have been pulled about it.
