Revs increase dramatically

Postby Metalhead671 » Thu Feb 13, 2025 1:51 pm

Hi bought a 2018 transit from a garage with warranty included, had a problem with the axle which garage fixed but the van now revs from 2000-3000 when I depress the clutch and try to change gear, I know they have a rev holder but this jumps dramatically and stays for 2-3 seconds before slowly decreasing, doesn’t happen all the time but very frequent and in high gears mostly, had it back in at garage 3 times for problem but there not fixed it and told me this is normal and are basically washing their hands of the problem,

Dont know a lot about the later transits, Id probably be looking at clutch position sensor..

Id not want my van revving to 3k on a cold unloaded engine.

You might have to get Ford to look or someone who knows the vans well.

This is a sudden RPM problem! Have you checked for vacuum leaks or throttle problems? Those can definitely cause unstable RPM and frequent misfires.

These engines don't run any vacuum....the inlet/manifold is always under a slight possitive pressure which increases as rpm and load increases.
