Auto door locks have a mind of their own!!

Postby Strider380 » Fri Nov 17, 2023 4:03 am

Hello everyone. I’ve been searching the Internet for a couple weeks now I can’t find anything close to my problem that I’m having. Im hoping someone might recognize the issue and be able to point me in the right direction.

I have a 2019 Ford transit 150 10 foot van. I bought it new. I currently has 67k.

It all started when I went out one day and couldn’t get the side door unlocked. I use both the key fob and the door lock buttons in the cab. So I crawled through from the back and unlocked it. Since there’s a manual lock on the back door. After days and weeks went by, Stranger Things started happening. I noticed with the key fob I couldn’t get all the doors to consistently lock or unlock. Then I started to notice a strange buzzing sound coming from the gas and brake area when starting and turning off the van. Then I started to notice that same buz when i lock and unlock button on the driver side door. I haven’t heard that sound in a while, but currently if I go to unlock my drivers door with the key, about half the time the door will just lock itself before I can open it. I unlock it and it instantly locks again. It’s like playing a game trying to get into the cab. Then when I hold the lock open enter and sit down , I can hear a mechanism inside the driver door going “clunk clunk clunk clunk”.. Only way to stop this is by hitting the lock button on the drivers door. Also the locks will randomly lock at each door at random. And the key fob currently does not lock or unlock all doors. But might lock one or two. The headlights always flash and the interior light lights up with the key fob per usual

This is pretty weird but I would imagine it would point to something in particular. I’m not sure what type of module runs this cooperation. I’ve been reading a lot about the BCM and the fuses in it. If this problem sounds familiar to anyone and I could get some advice I might take a stab at repairing it. If not, I can take it to a repair shop or possibly the dealer. If it is any questions let me know and thank you for any help or Guidance. I will be sure to follow up with a solution once I get there

Quite often door locking/remote problems are down to a poor battery, does it behave after the engine has been running/charging?

I just tried the driver side door lock and unlock button while the vehicle was running and it makes the buzzing sound that comes from the gas pedal area. Everytime i push either button. Actually the sound is more towards the fuse box to the left of the steering column

I wonder if it’s a bad actuator in the drivers door that’s making the whole system go wonky? The drivers door lock exhibits lots of weird symptoms, everything else in the vehicle barely works or doesn’t work but doesn’t do anything weird besides that

Please excuse my punctuation and spelling i am on my phone and its hard to proof read lol

Hello, I am having the exact same issue with my 2019 transit. We're you able to find a fix?
