MK7 starter motor

Good evening fellow Transit enthusiasts I wonder if I might tax your noodles for a moment to potentially confirm what I think my problem is. I am the usually happy owner of a Transit mk7 2.4 diesel xlwb and I believe the starter motor may be kaput. I put the key in the ignition, all the lights lit up and did their usual thing, the relay under the seat clicked as per normal but I got a brief farty/fuzzy sound from the front, tried the key again, lights/relay all did their thing but now just silence from the front. Am I correct in thinking the starter motor is knackered? If so is there a specific starter motor from my model of transit or are they the same starter for all mk7 Transits? Many thanks in advance.

Not necessarily

Check battery posts are clean under the clamps and inside of them , check engine and body grounds/earths negatives . check for corrosion in all related connections and maybe take things off . Check wiring to starter .. Check red wire from alternator to starter. both ends. check little bradded "exposed" copper wire is still intact between solenoid and motor.

Also a common problem is the ignition barrel wearing... you look at this after the checks above .

Also check voltages and battery condition .. something over 12.4 volts fully charged .. and that charging system is charging 13.2 volts plus.

Thanks for the swift reply, battery is fine I think as are the connections, I'd just picked my lad up from school, popped into Tesco's on the way home, came out and the van wouldn't start. Fingers crossed it's something basic and easy.

You "should" have two batteries under the drivers seat on a Mk7 2.4...check them both. The front (Aux) one usually gives up first and can take the rear (Starter) battery with it. Get them both properly load tested...not just a voltage check...some batteries can hold a decent voltage until loaded, then they fail miserably.
