Front camera malfunction & hill start messages

Postby Rob62 » Tue Oct 07, 2025 6:01 pm

Hi, Just been away in my mk8 460 minibus camper conversion. Everything ran ok until the morning after storm Amy which lashed the bus with heavy wind and rain all night. On starting the engine 1st thing i got a message “front camera malfunction, service required” followed by “hill start not available” I also noticed that the abs amber light and the traction control amber lights were both lit. Also the stop start cancel light was lit. All theses faults at the same time seems odd, I wonder if they are related. I have removed and cleaned the camera and checked for blown fuses but no such luck for an easy fix.. Any advise would be appreciated, before i book her into the garage. Cheers.

Have you checked the front battery..?? Lots of unrelated electrical faults can be caused by a poorly front battery. Does the central locking still work properly..??

Cleared the codes today, “rear rh wheel speed sensor” and “rear rh wheel tone” whatever that is… Checked the battery output and it’s 12.2 to 12.3 v, not great. Doesn’t go up when motor is running except when i turn on all the lights when it then ramps up to about 13.5v. Not an expert on smart alternators so don’t know if thats normal. New batteries fitted in June last year, all been perfect since then. Anyway i went out for a test run but the same original messages and lights keep on returning after a few minutes. Gonna check battery connection and earth straps next….then it’ll be off to the garage :(

You need to properly "load test" each battery separately...not just voltage, some batteries can show decent voltage until loaded, then they fail miserably. 12.2v is not enough.....and with engine running you should be getting in excess of 14v.

Have you checked the PCM earths on the left inner wing..??

The ABS tone ring will have snapped on that right hand rear hub.
They can be replaced but it’s a full strip to get hub off.
