Slow crank when warm

Postby VanDuVin » Sun Mar 29, 2026 7:16 pm

I have a Mk7 which generally runs fine.
Recently had an issue with stalling from a very cold start but recovered to run fine.
Usually from cold the van starts fine but when starting from warm, the engine turns over very slow, almost like a flat battery (not a flat battery and alternator seems fine).
Removing the key from the ignition and trying again solves the issue after one or two tries.
Recently had a new battery, MAF, EGR valve and an ignition switch, none of which has helped (although these were changed for different reasons).
Not sure if related but when locking the van with the fob, it often doesn't recognise the key. If you turn the ignition back on and try again, it locks.
Any thoughts welcome please.
Thanks Ian

Probably a poorly starter, very common.

What model Mk7..?? Euro-4 or Euro-5..?? FWD or RWD..?? Twin batteries..??

If Euro-4, when was the fuel filter last replaced, when were the learns last done.??

check all the earths, they can overheat if making a poor conection and heat creates resistance , especially check the main battery earth on the drivers seat base, mine was doing the same as yours, it would instantly jump start fine, turned out to be the seat base earth, also how is the batthery terminal clamps? they can stretch and make a loose connection on the terminal, i changed all mine to solid terminal clamps, it's an easy free check ?
