engine problems mk6 2.2 diesel

Postby Fieref01 » Tue Mar 24, 2026 4:55 pm

Hello everyone,
I hope to finally find some suggestions and hopefully solutions for our Transit camper. We bought this camper from a private seller who converted an ex "Scottish water" van into a camper. Though the conversion is very nice done and the seller told us that there was a "knock" at the engine , he told us that it normally fast and cheap could be fixed. Long story short.... we're 4 months further and still after spending quite some time in the garage it's still not running smoothly, the knock is still there despite changing the injectors and a part from the engine loom.
Anyway.... The car is at the moment back home and I've been recently googling a lot now and found that the ECU could be the problem. But..... my question is .... who can test that out and if possible repair that. It is an MK 6 2.2 diesel and I have also an ECU from a more recent one but that's an MK7.... can that be switched maybe?
Looking forward to some suggestions.

No such animal as a Mk6 2.2...Mk6 only came in 2.0L (FWD) & 2.4L (RWD) diesel and 2.3L (RWD) petrol. Mk6 and Mk7 are totally different animals and most things engine wise are not interchangeable, especially the PCM (ECU).

Is it FWD or RWD..?? TDCi or TDDi..??

Hello Lord Knobrot
to be clear and give as much as possible information... on the V5 it says the following

MAKE: FORD
TYPE: FAC6
VARIANT:CYRA2J
VERSION:E3CW GA

MODEL: TRANSIT 125 T350 RWD
CC: 2198 CC
KW: 92

FIRST REGISTRATION 31.05.2012

Can this help you to determinate the car?

Thanks already for the help.

Yeah...Mk7 Euro-5 by the looks....horrible things.!!

Mk7 started production with Euro-4 April 17 2006 through to Sept 26th 2011 (Build date, not reg date)....after that they were Euro-5 through to the end of 2014.

125 2.2 (CYRA engine code) suggests it is a Euro-5, there are no 2.2 Euro-4 RWD's.
